Four Components to a Great Story, Including Hot Wheels and an Old Fashioned

I am reading Stories That Stick by Kindra Hall and decided to outline the four components of a great story, starting with my current environment. Let me know what you think. 😉

Identifiable characters: Hello! For those that don’t know me, I’m Jessi. I am 34 years old and from my time working as a barista at Starbucks and from waking up at 3:30 am to open the store, I appreciate a strong, good cup of coffee. Dry shampoo is a staple in my daily routine along with Jesus and a glass of Pinot Noir. I am a wife (the best!) to Matt, mother to Saul and Crew, sister, and a daughter. At work, I am an executive assistant, or “boss lady” as my niece calls me. I prefer the latter. I served eight years in the military where I was fortunate to travel all over the country. I love reading, writing, baking, and interviewing community leaders about their personal journey through my work on Glaze and Grit, a Fargo-Moorhead podcast with the goal of shattering success perceptions and showcasing authenticity at its core.

A significant moment: Hey, I (we, you!) made it through today. We showed up. We worked hard. We handled crises. We encouraged our team members. We nailed projects. We checked in on family. We took kids to daycare. We picked kids up from daycare. We made supper, juggled baths, cleaned, played, read bedtime books, put kids to bed, checked into work… And now at 8:00 pm, I (and cheers if you have too) have poured myself an Old Fashioned and am spending time learning, relaxing, and unwinding.

Authentic emotion: Blessed. Thankful. A bit tired.

Specific details: Additional captured in my picture: Hot wheels race track in the background. A staple John Deere tractor representing community and hard work from my husband growing up on a farm. My Old Fashioned needing some TLC and my journal always present.

Four components of my current situation being interwoven into a greater story. My story.

My story outline isn’t going to win any awards or heck, even stick, but it’s to show you that our days count.

No matter the circumstances or what you are going through, I hope you feel special, cared for, and important today because you are.

Our Stories Matter.

What are the four components to your story? I'd love to hear.
